위 기사는 district attorney인 fani willis가 동료와 간통을 한 혐의에 대한 거다. 옥쓰포드 영한사전에 보면 district attorney가 미국의 지방 검사라고 나온다. 하지만 이렇게 이해하면 위 기사는 이해되지 않는다. 일개 지방 검사의 불륜이 전 대통령의 형사 사건과 무슨 관계가 있겠는가?

district attorney는 지방 검찰청의 검사장이다.

검찰은 지방에 청을 둬서 무슨 검찰청이라는 이름을 갖는다. 따라서 단순하게 보면 이런 청의 장은 검찰청장일 테지만 우리 법에 따르면 검찰청장이라는 건 없다. 검찰의 대장인 검찰총장은 있다. 개념적으로 검찰청장은 우리 법이 검사장이라 명한다.
