기존 지식을 의심하여 노벨상을 받은 배리 마셜과 로빈 워런

우리나라 요거트 광고에 나왔던 호주의 내과 의사 배리 마셜은 2005년에 노벨 생리학/의학상을 받았다. 그는 동료인 로빈 워런과 함께 사람의 위에 헬리코박터 파일로리라는 세균이 사는데 이게 위궤양과 위암의 발병과 관계가 있다는 연구 결과를 내놓았고 이거로 함께 받았다.

이들이 연구를 발표했을 때 사람의 위는 세균이 살기에는 너무 강한 산을 만들어 내기 때문에 세균이 살 수 없다며 학계는 이들의 연구를 무시했다.
